Welcome To Center for Development and Capacity Building

 Center for Development and Capacity Building (CDCB) is a local civil society think-tank non-profit making organization established in 2012. Its establishment was promoted by a group of volunteer practitioners, academicians, researchers and civil society leaders with the objective of supporting the development of regional states and their local governments through research, training and advisory services.  CDCB prioritizes issues which have multiple positive impacts in enhancing good governance, ensuring sustainable peace and development in the region. The focus areas for the coming five years include; Undertaking Research, Conducting Trainings, Organizing Forums and Implementing Innovative Projects with high replication potential.

CDCB and EIAR is co-hosting a workshop aimed at promoting CDCB’s Innovative Urban Agriculture for scaling up in Oromia.

 

Centre for Development and Capacity Building (CDCB) and Ethiopian Institute for Agricultural Research (EIAR) is co-hosting a workshop aimed at promoting CDCB’s Innovative Urban Agriculture for scaling up in Oromia. It is a high level consultative workshop among government agencies, research institutions and development actors with the objectives of deepening & broadening the innovative project and to pave way for institutionalization of Urban-Agriculture through engaging key stakeholders (development partners, research institutions) particularly government agencies to own and scale-up the project. We will update you on the event and upload the proceedings of the workshop. It is expected to be one of the ways to reduce the vulnerability of the peri-community in Oromia. {jcomments on} 

Research Programs

CDCB believes in evidence based advisory services to the regional government institutions and leadership. Accordingly, CDCB has planned several research and study projects/priorities in its strategic plan. In addition, the center is keen to undertake a study or research when requested by the institutions. On top of this the CDCB has better record in the past few years’ experiences in undertaking various studies. 

Project Based Programs

CDCB has adopted two mechanisms in which project based programs are implemented. The first one is soliciting funds from donors to implement innovative projects having economic and social benefits for the society, specially the poor. This program focuses on the projects having multiple benefits and to be scaled up to other areas of similar context. The second one is implementing projects based on the demand of regional institutions.

Identifying Institutional capacity gap is a key task before the intervention. Providing Advisory service to Regional Institutions

One of the mechanisms CDCB designed to support/strengthen the regional offices is through creating a platform for professionals to assist the region with their professional skill and knowledge. Accordingly, six key thematic areas of CDCB are identified in the organization’s five years strategic plan, such as: (a) Leadership and Governance, (b) Economic Development, (c) Environments and Natural Resource, (d) Social Sector (e) Culture, and (f)Urbanization and Urban Development. So far the professional teams are organized under three core technical teams and proposed their regional priority areas to the regional government. This is done through serious of forums, workshops, consultation and conferences. The output of the workshops to be given to the regional leadership and relevant institutions in the form of advice or policy reviews.
