Center for Development and Capacity Building (CDCB) organized a Consultation Workshop on “State and non-state actors’ partnership for Sustainable Development” on August 2, 2014 at Elilly International Hotel in Finfinne.
Center for Development and Capacity Building (CDCB) is a local civil society think-tank non-profit making organization established in 2012. Its was promoted by a group of volunteer academicians, researchers, practitioners and civil society leaders with the objective of supporting the development of regional states and their local governments through research, training and advisory services.
CDCB is envisioned to be a leading think tank, with a capacity to make making significant contribution to build democracy, peaceful and economically prosperous nation where the dignity of human beings is respected where the basic needs of people fulfilled.
CDCB organized a consultation workshop to strengthen the partnership of Centre with major stakeholders and setting strategic intervention area. The one day workshop was aimed at:
- Creating consensus among CDCB’s major categories of stakeholders on the CDCB’s future plan of actions
- Increasing state and non-states cooperation and partnership and induce further forums and platforms among different cross-section of the society
- Promoting the role of non-state actors in the socio-economic development of the region vis-à-vis a country. The workshop has brought together the four major categories of stakeholders of CDCB (the government officials or practitioners, scholars from different academic and research institutes, and civic society organization leaders).
A welcoming remark was made by board director of CDCB, Rev. Dr. Wakseyoum. He highlighted as the idea of having CDCB was started before five years though it started its operation only before one year. The major purpose of establishing CDCB was mentioned to be mobilizing intellectuals in the country and beyond to have significant contribution on the development endeavors of Oromiaof Oromiya.
The opening remark of the workshop was held by Oromia Regional State President H.E Obbo Muktar Kedir. H.E Obbo Muktar Kedir reiterated his government’s commitment to utilize the knowledge, skill and expertise of individuals who are committed to contribute to the development of the region. He says given the accelerating rate of economic growth and dynamic development we are achieving as nation and as region the role of research and various capacity building training has paramount importance where academia, research institutes are very important. Hence, the vision and mission of CDCB which is aimed at enhancing this effort is crucial.
During the workshop four papers was presented on the workshop on different topics.
